On July 30, 2026, the Network for Open Teacher Education in Sub-Saharan Africa (NOTES) held a webinar titled "Sustaining OER Implementation in Teacher Education," with 69 participants joining the discourse.
The webinar was a follow-up to the Regional Workshop on Open Educational Resources (OER) including Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Teacher Education, held in Johannesburg in April 2026.
The discussions included activities and projects since April 2026. Botswana Open University, Walter Sisulu University, and the University of the Witwatersrand shared updates on the workshops they had held.
Emerging projects by the University of Mauritius, the University of Zambia (UNZA) and the University of the Witwatersrand were also highlighted. The University of Mauritius had made significant progress in OER, guided by the Mauritius National OER Policy.
KEY CONVERSATIONS & FRAMEWORKS
The conversations also covered integral frameworks, components and practices, including the OER Teacher Education Framework (OER TEF), the NOTES digital workspace, the regional OER repository, communities of practice, institutional commitments to the six domains of the OER TEF, and the sustainability of NOTES.
